The hydrological cycle or water cycle is the most important of all natures cycles and it explains the global distribution and movement of water between oceans, atmosphere, vegetation and land.
It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and sent
down rain from the sky and produced thereby some fruits as provision for you
and subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His command and
subjected for you the rivers. (Surat 'Ibrahim [14:32] - The Noble Qur'an)
Summary of the Hydrologic Cycle:-
*Water
exists on the surface in the form of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, streams and
ice caps.
*It
exists in the atmosphere as rain and water vapour
*Underground
as seepage within rock structures and in underground streams and lakes.
*Water
can pass into the atmosphere via evaporation and transpiration.
*It
can be carried by winds and returns to the surface and precipitation (rain,
snow, sleet etc. You should remember this from first year!!)
*Water
can return to oceans and seas as run-off.
*The
hydrological cycle works as a closed system, as there is a definite amount of
water that remains constant within the system
*The
system is powered by energy from the sun.
