Precipitation

It’s raining, it’s pouring,
    The old man’s snoring.
He got into bed
    And bumped his head
And couldn’t get up in the morning.(by MotherGoose)

Some say raining, some say rainfall, others say rainwater, then what is precipitation?
Either what word it is, this is very valuable source more than gold in your hand...

In general rain is the water in the skies comes down to Earth, where it fills our lakes and rivers, recharges the underground aquifers, and provides drinks to plants and animals. It is created a renewable resource that moves in a cycle with neither beginning nor end.

The amount of precipitation that falls around the world may range from less than 0.1 inch per year in some deserts to more than 900 inches per year in the tropics. The driest spots on Earth is Lquique, Chile, where no rain fell for a period of 14 years. The wettest spot is Cherrapunji, Meghalaya State, India with 10,820mm rain falls on average in a year. By contrast, Malaysia receives enough precipitation during an average year of about 2,300 mm (93 inches) , with the heaviest period during the December-February monsoon season. In addition, few countries also receives enough precipitation with an average  rain per year around 1,400 mm in Japan, 1,200 across the USA and 650 mm in France.

Water is the Liquid of Life

Water in the City

It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals]. He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. (Surat An-Nahl [16: 10-11] - The Noble Qur'an)

Water…We cannot survive without it, and we expect it to be there when we need it.

It is the mission to our authority to provide an adequate supply of water for our essential daily needs. We also have State and Federal Law and Policies such as the Safe Drinking Water Act and National Water Services Industry Act 2006 as a guidelines and standard practices to ensure we will manage the water as part of larger natural systems. Take the issue of stormwater management and water distribution; we hope that the following Law and Policies set by authorities become an ideal concept rather than a set of specific guidelines and practices.

Water We Use

In our cities (Malaysia Region) rainwater is the main source and the largest source of storm water runoff. In large view, rainwater runoff collected in dams and reservoirs for rural water supply.

Water Come Water Loss

Malaysia received lots of rainwater throughout the years, but we do not manage it well. We now feel the pressures on rural water supplies, escalating demand, deteriorating water quality and new development projects of water sources in this country.

Action Time

We still have a lot of work to do…

The most important step in the direction of finding solutions to issues of water is time to us to act more like natural systems. Some of the simple thing we thing will become the right thing to do. Some actions should be considered as one of the promising alternatives such as:-

Reduce such losses
Improve soil moisture
Reducing water demand
Rainwater harvesting
